Pregnancy Activities: Which is Good, Which is not?

There are things that an expectant mother can do and shouldn't do. It's not necessary to avoid daily pregnancy activities such as shopping or house-moving. However, if you've no choice but have to carry out certain activities, you must know how to protect your body from harm. You should make discerning decisions to avoid over-burdening yourself or letting yourself be uncomfortable. Below are some pregnancy activities that you can carry out.

Be on night duty or work through the night

It's inevitable that you've to adjust your lifestyle when you're pregnant. Be aware of a miscarriage in the first trimester and premature birth in the third trimester.

Carrying heavy things

The more pronounced your tummy is, the more uncomfortable you'll feel. Avoid activities that require back strength as much as you can.

House moving

Prolonged standing or sitting

As much as possible, avoid such activities as you could irritate the uterus. If you fall, you may hurt the abdomen.

Go to a public bath

During pregnancy, avoid bathing in water temperatures higher than 38.5°C or for more than 20 minutes.

Hold your pee

Use public transport

If you're feeling weak, avoid modes of transport that tend to sway a lot or make long distance journeys. If you've serious morning sickness, taking the public transport will be a twisted experience.

Long hours in front of the computer

Pay attention to your blood circulation and stand up anytime to do simple exercises.

Coffee, black tea and other caffeinated beverages

It's all right to drink one or two cups a day. Different problems arise according to different levels of caffeine. Caffeine levels differ from brands to brands as well. Whatever it is, your caffeine intake mustn't be higher than a certain level.

Quarrel with your spouse

The husband who cannot get along properly with his wife will regret for the rest of his life.

Aerobic dancing

Be careful of an exercise during pregnancy that is too vigorous like aerobic dancing. In the later stages of pregnancy, aerobic dancing with relaxing gymnastic movements may be better for you.

Swimming

Avoid stepping into cold water in the early and later stages of pregnancy. In the later stages, there are risks of uterine contractions and infections.

Tennis

Mountaineering

If the climbing isn't too tough, mountaineering is beneficial till the second trimester. However, during the third trimester (around 8 to 10 months pregnancy), even if the climbing is easy, it's best to avoid this activity.

Laugh

The intensity of laughter is very important. Sudden, shrill laughing is bad. Laughing too loudly or too hard will cause pressure.

Wearing jeans

It's all right to wear loose jeans. Don't wear tight jeans or clothes that will restrict your movement.

Cold beverages such as Coke and Sarsi

Wear tight-fitting clothes

If the fabric offers good ventilation, there are no disadvantages in wearing tight-fitting clothes. Cotton allows good ventilation. That type of elastic, figure-hugging fashion created for expectant moms are all right as well.

Wear shoes with heels that are 3-4 cm and above

Wearing shoes with heels that are too high or too low will tire you easily. The ideal pair of shoes has heels that are 3-4 centimeters high.

Perming or coloring the hair

Stay away from perming your hair as much as possible. The colorants contain cancer-causing substances which are best to be avoided.

Eating supplements

Your body will pass out soluble vitamins which you may have consumed beyond the recommended dosage. Hence, that's not a cause for worry. However, over dosage of fat-soluble vitamins, calcium and iron will lead to problems. So, it's very important to stick to the recommended dosage.

Eat stimulating food

Spicy and salty foods are especially bad for the expectant mom. Get rid of any food that will irritate the stomach. Spicy food is strictly prohibited.

Ice-creams, candies and other sweet stuff

If you're concerned about calories, it's better not to eat sweet stuff. Even if you're eating to cheer yourself up, you shouldn't be eating too much as well.

X-rays

You should be extra careful during the early stages of pregnancy. If you know you're pregnant, cover your abdomen before taking an X-ray. Repeatedly taking X-rays is strictly prohibited.

Overall, make sure that your daily pregnancy activities wouldn’t affect your pregnancy.
